The Jaecoo J7 costs PKR 9,999,000. The Kia Sportage L hybrid costs PKR 12,199,000. That is a gap of PKR 2,200,000 for two SUVs that look like they belong in the same group. So which one should you buy? Both are hybrids, but they work in different ways. The J7 is a plug-in hybrid, so it has a big battery you charge at home. The Kia is a regular hybrid, so you never plug it in. This guide compares price, power, running cost, warranty, safety and what owners say. All prices were checked on 2 October 2026.

The Short Answer
Pick the J7 if you can charge at home and want the lower price and the longer warranty. Pick the Sportage L if you do not want to plug in, want the Kia name, or need all-wheel drive. Neither car has a long record on Pakistani roads yet, so ask each dealer for a written price and a written feature list before you pay.

What You Pay Today
The J7 got cheaper this month. On 14 September 2026 the price dropped by PKR 500,000, from PKR 10,499,000 to PKR 9,999,000. Right now the J7 Premium is the only J7 trim with a listed price in Pakistan.
The Kia went the other way. In August 2026 Kia raised its hybrid prices. The front-wheel-drive hybrid went up PKR 900,000, from PKR 11,299,000 to PKR 12,199,000. The all-wheel-drive hybrid went up PKR 1,059,000, from PKR 12,240,000 to PKR 13,299,000.
Some dealer pages still show old prices. One dealer guide lists the Sportage L Alpha at PKR 8,899,000, while the live PakWheels page shows PKR 7,899,000. When two numbers do not match, trust the one you get in writing from the showroom.
Plan for more than the sticker price too. In Punjab, first-time registration costs 2% of the car’s value. On the J7 that is about PKR 199,980. On the Sportage L FWD it is about PKR 243,980.

Power and Features
The two cars use their engines in different ways.
The J7 has a 1.5-liter turbo engine and a large 18.3 kWh battery. Together they make 255 kW and 525 Nm. The maker says it goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds and can drive more than 90 km on battery alone. That range is the maker’s claim, so your own number will change with traffic, heat and how you drive. The fuel tank holds 60 liters.

The Sportage L hybrid has a 1.6-liter turbo engine with a small 1.49 kWh battery. Kia lists 235 hp and 368 Nm. It has a 6-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. You choose between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.
Side by side, the size and kit look like this:
| Item | Jaecoo J7 SHS-P | Kia Sportage L HEV |
|---|---|---|
| Wheelbase | 2,672 mm | 2,755 mm |
| Ground clearance | 174 mm | 181 mm |
| Boot space | Not confirmed for Pakistan | 586 liters |
| Screens | 14.8 inch center, 10.25 inch driver | Two 12.3 inch screens |
| Airbags | 8 (maker page) | Not confirmed for Pakistan |
| 360 camera | Yes | Yes, check your trim |
| Ventilated front seats | Yes | AWD only, per Kia |
The Kia has the longer wheelbase and more ground clearance, so it should feel roomier in the back. The J7 gives you more cabin tech for less money. Both have adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning and lane help. If the dealer shows you a feature on a brochure, make sure it is on the exact trim you are buying.
Running Cost
Petrol costs PKR 390.66 per liter since 2 October 2026. Here is what 1,000 km costs in petrol alone:
- J7: about PKR 23,534, using the 16.6 km/L figure from the Pakistan launch review.
- Sportage L: about PKR 22,980 to PKR 26,044, using the 15 to 17 km/L range on PakWheels.
So on petrol alone the two cost about the same. The J7 only saves money when you charge it. Each charge at home replaces some petrol. If you cannot charge, you carry a big battery for little reward. Charging costs electricity, so count that too.
Owners report very different numbers. One J7 owner posted 20 km/L in the city and 16 km/L on the highway in July 2026. One Sportage L hybrid owner reported about 14 to 14.5 km/L in city traffic with the AC on. Another posted 23 km/L in the city and 16 km/L on the highway. Your habits matter more than the brochure. Our guide on how to drive a hybrid in Pakistani traffic shows how to get the best number from either car.
Heat is the other thing to plan for. A hybrid battery works harder in Pakistani summers. Read how to protect your hybrid battery in 50 degree heat before you buy.
Warranty and Safety
The J7 comes with 6 years or 150,000 km on the car. Its high-voltage battery gets 8 years or 160,000 km. Kia gives 4 years or 100,000 km on its cars, and you must service the car at approved centers to keep it.
For safety, both cars earned five stars from Euro NCAP. The J7 plug-in hybrid was tested in 2025. The Sportage was tested in 2022. Those tests used cars built for other countries, so they do not prove that every Pakistani trim has the same safety kit. Ask the dealer for the exact airbag count and driver-assist list on your car.
What Owners Say
There are not many Pakistani owner reports yet, so treat this as a small sample.
J7 owners praise comfort and steady driving. One owner wrote about good fuel use on mountain roads. One forum member reported that the car stopped on the road because of a damaged high-voltage connector, and the dealer fixed it for free. That is one story, not a pattern, but ask the dealer how fast they can get parts.
Sportage L owners like the styling, the cabin and the cameras. They also mention high price, costly parts and service, heat inside the cabin, and a small jerk when the hybrid system switches modes. Some say it lacks a few comfort features they expected at this price.
Jaecoo says it has 20 locations listed in Pakistan. A listing is not the same as a working workshop, so visit the one nearest to you before you decide. For more hybrid comparisons, read our Kia Sportage L HEV vs Honda HR-V guide and our JAC J7 vs Haval T9 PHEV guide.
Who Should Buy Which
Buy the J7 if:
- You can charge at home or at work most days.
- You want the lower price, which leaves PKR 2,200,000 or more in your pocket.
- You want the longer warranty.
- You are fine with a newer brand that has less history here.
Buy the Sportage L if:
- You do not want to plug in a car.
- You want all-wheel drive.
- You like the Kia name and want it to be easy to resell.
- You want the extra ground clearance and boot space.
Resale numbers are not available yet for either car. The J7 only launched in Pakistan in October 2025, so nobody can tell you what it will sell for in three years. Anyone who gives you a firm resale number is guessing.
Accessories Both Owners Buy First
New SUV owners in Pakistan tend to add the same few things. We have not counted what J7 and Sportage owners buy. This list is our own advice from selling accessories.
First, protect your paint. Paint protection film shields the front and the doors from stones and scratches, and our guide to ceramic coating vs PPF explains which one fits your budget. Second, protect the floor. Pakistani dust and monsoon mud ruin carpet fast, so a set of custom floor mats pays off quickly. See our picks of the best mats for the Kia Sportage, or read about 7D mats vs grass mats before the rains come.

Third, think about seat covers if you have kids or pets, and a back camera if you park in tight lanes. Both cars already have a 360 camera on top trims, so check what you have before you buy more. Jaecoo owners can browse our Jaecoo upgrades range, and Kia owners can see our Kia Sportage accessories guide.
A word on tint. Sindh banned dark tint and Karachi Police are enforcing it. Punjab has rules and exemptions. A federal plan to allow paid tint permits is still only a draft. Read our window tint rules guide for Punjab before you put any film on your glass.
